Our Nurture Corner
On entry to Nursery all our children are invited to place their name on our Feelings Check In.
We have emotions Calm, Happy, Angry, Worried and Sad.
Children love to share their feelings and thankfully the majority are Calm or Happy on entry.
We discuss our Feelings Board during our morning carpet time and children are encouraged to share if they have placed their name on the Angry, Worried or Sad emotions.
Children are able to verbalise colours if they cannot use the correct terminology for how they feel:-
Calm - Green, Happy - Yellow, Angry - Red, Worried - Purple & Sad - Blue.
We have also created a Calm and Nurturing place for children at our Nursery. This area is supported by a member of staff.
It is cosy so children can be comfortable.
There is signage to enable children to verbalise/communicate how they feel.
We have a range of fidget toys to assist the children to self regulate their emotions.
A range of PSE themed books are on hand for staff to read to children depending on what the issue is e.g. If a child has a tantrum because he/she doesn't wish to share or turn take - Giving & Sharing would be an apt book for staff to read to the child to explain to the child, in a more age appropriate and calm way, that sharing is caring and kind.
We revisit our Feelings Check In at the beginning of our Afternoon sessions to see if there have been any upsets or issues with our children during the morning and Lunch Club.
